Great Way to Learn About Social Justice

I've been following Mia Mackenzie's blog for the past two years and it is top knotch. I recommend this book for people wanting to learn about social justice and how it interacts with racism, classism, ableism etc. The text is very approachable and easy to read. I definitely recommend Mia's work to everyone.

As a black queer women this book was great! I would recommend this to lgbtq POC as this book highlights important intersectional discussions and articles from the BGD website and calls out "allies" who primarily speak over minority voices. At times funny, angry or sad, this is a must read!

Fran Lebowitz: A relic from the 1970s returns!

I'm probably being a bit too too too generous giving "Metropolitan Life" 4 stars. I'm doing it more for the lovability of Frannie Lebowitz, than necessarily her laugh-out-loud funniness. And yet, I remember Fran's endless appearances on talk shows in the 1970s-early 1980s, looking very errudite and Andy Warhol-ish, with sophisticated cigarette in hand, as she spouted off her pontifications and rumination of life. We all thought she was the height of eccentric sophistication and witty urbane intelligence back then in 1980.

Does it translate as well in 2006?

Fran Lebowitz is still clever enough. It's a slice of life that we'll never see again: that Andy Warhol-Halston-Studio 54 crowd that mixed with New York City's power elite: Fran was able to bridge those two worlds. I guess I'm feeling nostalgic for that period of time, when everybody rubbed shoulders with everyone else, and people weren't so isolated and cloistered in their own little groups reaffirming their own little world view.

Fran Lebowitz represented, back then, a kind of being able to expand your comfort zone. You didn't have to live in New York City to "get" her. You didn't have to be an edgy urbane sophisticate to appreciate the cleverness of her witticism.

You still don't. Here's what Fran has to say about....sleep:

"Sleep is death without the responsibility."

Fran on ...poetry:

"Generally speaking, it is inhumane to detain a fleeting insight."

Fran on convenience foods:

"The servant problem being what it is, one would think it apparent that a society that provides a Helper for tuna but compels a writer to pack her own suitcases desperately needs to reorder its priorities".

Fran on the self-help movement:

"If you want to get ahead in this world, get a lawyer--not a book.

There are all sorts of these Fran-isms in "Metropolitan Life".

Fran wakes up at 12:35 pm to start her day:

"---The phone rings. I am not amused. This is not my favorite way to wake up. My favorite way to wake up is to have a certain French movie star whisper to me softly at two-thirty in the afternoon that if I want to get to Sweden in time to pick up my Nobel Prize for Literature I had better ring for breakfast. This occurs rather less often than one might wish."--Fran Lebowitz, Metropolitan Life

In 1978, when Metropolitan Life was published, New York City was all the rage, and we thought these urbane witticisms were the funniest thing ever.

I still think she's very clever and represents a certain urban social strata that's, today, lost forever. The Studio 54 crowd of the late 1970s, that Andy Warhol/Fran Lebowitz came out of, were some of the most dynamic, artistic, edgy, intellectuals ever. Obviously today's club kids, and what passes for today's urban "Hip Hop" youth are completely different. Today, it's an anti-intellectualism that pervades urban club culture.

So, in that sense......Fran Lebowitz's world looks very appealing, today, when you contrast it with what passes for empty, dumbed-down humor in contemporary 2006.

No, of course "Metropolitan Life" isn't laugh-out-loud hysterical/hilarious by today's standards of jaded humor. But it does represent a universal-clever urban sophistication that we are missing from society today. We have become very polarized and, today, you'd never see a Fran Lebowitz, or Andy Warhol, mixing with New York establishment types, or appealing to the general masses the way she/they did back then. You also have to remember that this was ten years before Seinfeld, and she paved the way for that kind of Seinfeld-ian dry-humor and comedic observations.

In that sense the humor book, Metropolitan Life, if short on belly-laughs, does indeed work as a historical/culture chronicle. And Fran is far more clever than anything that passes for generic/homogenized humor today.

Rounded Down From One Hundred Stars; Now, With An Index!

Metropolitan Life, Fran Lebowitz; A Harold Robbins Book [E.P. Dutton] (1974-78 hardcover)

This slender goldmine of fierce but subtle satire hasn't aged a bit since the day when I originally didn't read it & the recommendation that you do the opposite (read it) is unqualified.

"Unqualified" also describes Met Life's publisher E.P. Dutton (deceased, 1986), whose irked editorial representative (a summer intern) listened to the bid made by a freelancer (Fran, wanting even more money, impersonating someone else) for the assembly of the book's index --- & then rudely hung up.

My contribution to the world of Arts & Letters (winner of the Belmont Stakes in 1969) in the context of praising this book (note the Five Stars, above left) is...

I LOVE this book! LOL!

Fran Lebowitz's work should NOT be OUT OF PRINT! Her work should be taught in schools. Do people still study the writing of essays? Do they still want to learn the cadence of wit? I laughed out loud while re-reading Metropolitan Life - one of Fran's "sports" is "getting the mail." Okay, part of that is affection for Fran, can't help it. I have to love someone who is still real. I love her work. I was inspired to re-purchase her books after seeing Martin Scorsese's Public Speaking documentary of Fran. I was astonished to see them out of print. The strange irony of this fact is that we get to see her speak more often and in more locations than she would ever lecture or read if she were raking it in from her books. It was obvious to me, while listening to her in the film, that she is still writing whether she knows it or not; she is such a natural.

She then teaches readers how to keep these chakras clear and clean, leading to greater health and energy.

The chakras themselves are a beautiful progression of shifting colors, starting with the red root chakra at the base of the spine and moving up the body, shade-by-shade, and ending with the royal purple "crown" chakra at the top of the head. Each chakra interacts with a person's issues and concerns in the world. For instance, the root chakra relates to basic survival, such as money, shelter, and material needs, according to Virtue. If a person feels stable in this arena, the "root chakra looks like a brilliant ruby held under a spotlight," she explains. However, if people feel fearful about money or become overly obsessed with their career or possessions, this chakra will be come "dirty" and have a muddy, dark red color.

Virtue offers an extensive assortment of original, guided meditations that are effective in cleaning and clearing all the chakras. The information is well organized and clearly presented with a corresponding CD to help readers integrate the meditations into daily life. She also touches upon other cleaning tools, such as what foods and crystals support the chakra system. Highly recommend it! Thank you

This is a MUST for EVERYONE! There is a morning meditation and an even mediation and each are about 25 minutes long. I make an effort to the morning mediation/chakra clearing every morning because I work with a lot of different people and I want to clear and empower myself and "step back and let Spirit lead the way". Whew - what a blessing it's been to clear and activate and know that going through my day - the Divine is working through me - it's reduced my stress level! And, the evening mediation/charkra clearing is one that I try to do as often as possible - especially if there have been difficult circumstances throughout the day - for this mediation clears and removes the negative aspects of the day and creates a peaceful night's sleep. Highly recommend it! Thank you, Doreen!

Highly Recommend!

I absolutely love the variety of different tips that she gives on chakra clearing, how to clear the chakras of others, how chakra clearing has affected both her life and the lives of others, and useful information about the chakras. My favorite method is meditation, I feel so much better after balancing my chakras, and I also incorporate chanting. She didn't go into too much depth with chanting in this book, but I had done research on chakras before purchasing this book so I knew which sounds where associated with each chakra already. I would highly recommend this book, at least as a starting point! It brushes over several techniques, so if you find that you want to dig deeper into something specific, you should seek additional resources, but this is a great starting point. If you read this, thank you for writing this book Doreen. Very well done!

CD is worthwhile

I have to say that I haven't read the book. My mother got it for me and although I was skeptical of the CD, I decided to listen to it one day while driving (my only alone time)and was impressed! Even while driving and having to have my focus on the road, I was able to go through the steps. I found the music and voice to be calm and soothing, which isn't always the case with these things. I didn't have any expectation going into it, but right away I noticed myself freely and openly meditating on some chakras, and others I felt like there was a big "do not enter" sign in front of that portion of my body. I can't really describe it except it felt like my body was saying "no!" This right away helped me recognize the chakras (there were 2) that need clearing and opening and the chakras that felt open and fine. I think it is a very positive tool in identifying where your body needs clearing and also to keep your chakras clear, open, and bright. I also found that when prompted by the CD, things or people in my life would come to my mind that I hadn't previously realized was a problem for me. I have to say that I am an intuitive person, open to metaphysical teachings, etc., but I am not heavily into this type of work. So for me, having done almost no previous chakra cleansing work, I was very happily surprised with what I got. I need to read the book next! I have other chakra books so I am familiar with locations on the body and what they represent.

About the Author
Gary B. Shelly wrote and published his first computer education textbook in 1969. More than twenty million copies of Shelly Cashman Series' textbooks have been sold. Gary and a talented group of contributing authors have produced books on computer programming, computer concepts, and application software that are the leading textbooks in the computer technology market today. Gary has hosted the annual Shelly Cashman Institute, a week-long training event focusing on the latest topics in technology, for the past 34 years.

Glenda A. Gunter is an Associate Professor, Co-chair of the Instructional Design & Technology programs at the University of Central Florida, and has a Ph.D. in Instructional/Educational Technology. She has a strong background in K-20 education, instructional design, digital media and technology, curriculum integration, K-12 literacy, and program development and evaluation. Dr. Gunter is the recipient of the 2010 Sloan-C Award for Excellence in Online Teaching.

Randolph E. Gunter has over 40 years of experience in education and training. He has a Ph.D. in Educational Technology, has co-authored 12 textbooks, written dozens of articles, and presented at over 50 conferences. Tough to Complete Assignments

While I love having this text on my Kindle and iPad for ease of taking it with me on the go, it is almost impossible to complete reading assignments without asking for more information from the instructor. There is no indication to page numbers so when they assign pages 351-371 there is no way to know exactly what they want without asking. That is quite frustrating. Otherwise the direct links are great and the ability to retrieve my highlights in one central location is wonderful.

this textbook is terrific. I really enjoyed reading it and then going online to the recommended links and tutorials. I was very edgy enrolling in this course as I am an older student and not very "techosavvy". The book offers so many resources and also explained how to do several online assignments very clearly which made the course easier for me . I really like this book!

The condition of the book could have been much better but you get what you paid for. As for the book's content, the purchase was for a college course so the was little to no interest on the subject matter. I did enjoy the online content that came with this purchase but overall, most of the information in this edition is outdated. (The bookstore seller even mentioned it was outdated. Why it's still in use, I have no clue.)

My strategy: I’ve filled the pages of this Instant Happy Journal with what I call “happiness prompters”—a range of motivational quotes, thought-provoking questions, scientific research studies, and soul-stirring philosophical thoughts. Each page’s happiness prompter is meant to inspire you to reflect and focus on where the most joy, appreciation, and love can be found in your day (and your life).

This journal also has fill-in dates so you can reflect and write at your own pace. Feel free to write either in the morning (to set an intention) or at day’s end (to share a reflection).
Many of the happiness prompters are ones I use with my family. For example, in my home we have one of my Instant Happy posters displayed on the inner side of our front door, which we
read every day:

“Something awesome is going to happen today.

I can’t wait to see what it will be.”�

Having this happiness prompter in our faces on a daily basis reminds us to be what I call “awesome seekers.”

Keeping this quote in mind helps us tune into the frequency of awesome—and to perk up and appreciate what’s happy in our day. Being an awesome seeker has been shown to increase happiness—in particular, when the awesomeness sought gets recorded in a journal. In a recent study, University of California researchers divided participants into three groups. The first wrote once a week in a journal about five awesome things they were grateful for. The second described five daily hassles. The third listed five random events. The results? Those in the first journal group reported an increase in happiness, more optimism about their future, and more improvement in health problems than those in the other two groups.

Finding more happiness in daily life

So often in life, we tend to focus on the not-so-positive things. When I saw this book, Instant Happy Journal by Karen Salmansohn, as one of the options for my monthly reviews on Blogging for Books I decided to order it. I figured that when using this over the year, I would be able to mindfully add happiness to my life. Who couldn't use more happy in their life?

This journal has daily happiness prompters to encourage you to reflect on those things in your day or life that bring joy, love, and happiness. I think we all get busy in the day to day life and sometimes forget to think about those things. These daily prompts help you focus on the positive, and that can change your whole outlook on life and benefit you in many ways.

Karen says her mission in putting this journal together is: "To help you live your happiest life." (pg 1) She also says, "...you will train your brain to focus on where the most inspiration, gratitude and joy are to be found." (pg 2)

I think that changing our focus to the happy aspects of life and ourselves is something that can benefit every one of us. We will have more joy in our life and want to share that joy with others.

It's not hard to take 5 minutes each day to think of and write about the daily prompts. A few of my favorite have been: "Every time you thought you couldn't keep moving forward, you did. Appreciate Your Strength", "Prioritize your life around kind, passionate people. Name-drop a few and why you adore them", and "The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow".

I would recommend this journal to people who are searching for more joy in daily life, or people who need to change their outlook from negative to positive. I think that these daily happiness prompters could benefit just about everyone!

I’m more than a little obsessed with cute journals (even though I can’t write in them for longer than a week for the life of me). When I saw this pretty little thing on Blogging for Books, I couldn’t resist. It’s so small and happy looking, how could I go wrong?

The nicest part of this journal is that it has prompts. Many journals lay abandoned on my bookshelves, victims of writer’s block. Some days are just not interesting enough to write about! Then you start to feel guilty about not journaling, then you keep procrastinating, then you look at the journal and it’s been too long since you wrote in it and you have to give up.

The Instant Happy Journal has 365 pages for journaling, but they’re NOT PRE-DATED. You get to write in the date yourself. Which means, if you miss journaling on March 3rd, you don’t have to wait until March 3rd of the following year to finish that page- just pick it up where you left off.

The graphics on the journal pages are fun without being overwhelming. I can see myself running out of room for writing on a few of the pages, but most of them look big enough. There are many interesting prompts- “Make a prediction in this journal about something you believe is about to happen. Fold over the corner of the page so you can be reminded to check later whether it came true!” “What made you feel afraid today? What can you say to yourself to increase your moxie and bravura?” “Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”

This is a great little journal for people who just need a reminder to reflect a bit during the day. It’s not too much work and is SO adorable.

The Company You Keep

Karen Salmansohn is a great writer, a great coach, a great artist and an amazing inspirational guide .

What she is, even more importantly, is real. You can feel that truth and up-front honesty in every word she writes.

And that is what Karen teaches us -- how to be real, how to find real, how to choose real, and how to stay the heck away from any and everything that is not real, 'coz all-that-is-not-real only leads to heartache, lost time, and pain.

You'd think this would be something we'd all have learned as kids -- how to find what's real -- but actually, what we've learned is how to buy bulls***. And it's that acceptance of all-that-is-insincere that's had us doubting even ourselves to the point of second-guessing every choice we make. And in fact, it's that uncertainty about what is real and who is sincere that's had a lot of us making choices that have, frankly, screwed up portions of our lives, like our love life, our self-image, and even our relationship to simple things like food.

Well, Karen's not havin' that. She's not havin' it in romance, at work, in friendships and at core: she's not havin' it with the most important thing of all -- our relationship with ourselves.

You will immediately see this insistence on facts-up honesty in everything Karen writes and teaches. But you also see the fierce and loyal love that drives it all. And that's also what Karen teaches us: how to tell what's real and true and good, and how to love ourselves (and respect ourselves) so much that we say, "yes, please, I'll have all that good stuff" to whatever's wonderful, and "Oh, NO way!" to whatever is not.

And, Karen is fun! She and her works are bright and witty. Sometimes, they are outright hilarious. And you know what? We need this. We need the serious, we need the funny, and most of all we need the real and the true and friends, Ms. Karen brings it all.

So that is all I have to say. Karen has benefited me and my life by her works and her generous spirit and example (she walks her talk, folks -- everything she preaches, she has practiced on herself and her own life). I think she, and her work, is great.

And here's why all this matters: you are going to be influenced by, and absorb, whatever and whomever you hang out with and listen to all day long -- and you know that this is true. So it is crucially important that you surround yourself with all that is good and true and real if that is the kind of life you want to have. It's the company you keep, people, that either supports you in finding your way, or distracts you off your path (or worse, encourages you to feel sorry for yourself and eat another pint of ice cream while you weep into your laptop).

My life and my spirit are merrier, happier, and doing better all because of Karen's "company".

I highly recommend you sample Karen's works, and see what great company they, and she, provide.

CLASSIC ANNE STUART!!

With some authors I just NEED to have every book they've written and Anne Stuart is one of them. If you've read any of her books (historical or modern) you know she goes in for a dark hero who is usually more bad than good (or maybe I should say so bad he's good). At any rate, I stumbled across this earlier book and WOW!!! What a ride. It takes place right after the French Revolution and our French heroine has managed to survive but not without a load of emotional scars. She is living in England when low and behold she is presented with the opportunity to take revenge on the Englishman (our hero) she blames for all the woes she and her family suffered during the reign of terror. And we're off. . . Needless to say things don't go as she plans. Great story line, great characters who are FULLY developed and complex. Wonderful "secondary character" love story. Order this book! It is worth the extra you will have to pay for a used copy. A definite keeper to add to your Anne Stuart collection. It's 394 sexy pages of adventure, tears and pleasure!

Strange, weakly-motivated characters, in a plot that spins around

This book was described to me as a superlative example of the romance genre.

Well...it wasn't superlative for me. First of all, I did not buy the reason that had Nicholas being the tormented dark hero that he was. It was very lame and confused. I *think* what the author wanted to say, is that Nicholas's father didn't love him -- or at least, Nicholas *thought* his father didn't love him, and when his older brother died and Nicholas was all that was left, his father regretted that and let Nicholas know it. So, this was Nicholas's excuse to become a womanizing rakehell bent on self-destruction.

Secondly, I couldn't come to terms with Nicholas refusing to help Ghislaine's family when they were threatened by the oncoming French Revolution. He really loved her at that time, although she was only 15. But Nicholas gets a letter telling him his father's dead, so he uses THAT as an excuse to become all hard & cold, and tells Ghislaine's father he won't take her out of the country? Huh? This is the love of your life - your first love no less - the one person who makes you feel all tender & happy - and you're going to go haywire and not help her or her family, because you got a letter telling you your father's dead, and suddenly you feel unlovable?

More reasonably, I could see Nicholas feeling unlovable at age 35 after years of being a skanky rake, but at age 22, Nicholas should have been more mallable and willing to believe in love. But of course, if he had helped Gilly's family, there would no further story, because Gilly wouldn't have had anything to hate him for!

And that brings me to my third point: (SPOILERS) How can you ever love someone who left you in a very dangerous situtation that ultimately destroyed your family? Nicholas's failure to come to their aid brings utter destruction and Gilly's parents are killed. And she's left to sell herself on the streets of Paris. Excuse me, but all that would DEFINITELY come between me and whatever uncontrollable attraction I felt for a man. Even a mere fictional character should have more sense. (END SPOILERS)

I also thought the subplot between Ellen & Tony was just a chore to read, not a bore necessarily, but a chore. If one more person or happenstance interrupted their potential lovemaking, I was going to SCREAM bloody murder. I hate it when authors play around that way -- bringing their characters to the brink, and then having someone walk in on them, or having a cat knock over a dish; over and over. It doesn't increase the dramatic or sensual tension - it just gets old, FAST, and annoying. Despite the flimsy reasons given for the choices they made, Gilly and Nicholas were by far a more interesting couple than Ellen and Tony. I suppose the author wanted a 'light' sub-story to counterbalance the 'dark' romance of Gilly and Nicholas but Ellen and Tony are two average characters; just blah. Their ho-hum romance never really took off.

The constantly changing settings gave me a headache. The characters are whipped from England to Scotland to Holland to Venice to France, (and flashbacks to Gilly's youth in France as well). (SPOILER ALERT) When Nicholas had the battle with the man who raped Gilly (entirely due to Nicholas' failing to rescue her, I could not forget) it was so melodramatic. And then he ends up killing the guy who sold her to the madam. (END OF SPOILER)

I guess the author was trying to redeem Nicholas in the heroine's eyes - well, it worked for the Gilly, more fool her, but just didn't work for me.

2 stars for the somewhat intriguing heroine with a vengeful backbone (I much preferred Gilly when she wanted to poison Nicholas) but, the unbelieveable motivations of the main characters; weak secondary characters, and really melodramatic actions in the last few chapters soured this story.

mesermizing, haunting, unforgettable, Stuart at her best!

I thought I had read every book Anne Stuart had written, but somehow, I missed this wonderful one. Fortunately, I discovered one listed on amazon.com used, because for some stupid reason, Avon doesn't have the good sense to keep this one in reprint. It another of Stuart's display of genius, that mesmerizes the reader to where you cannot put it down. She catches you up from page one and won't let you go, until she puts you through an emotional ringer. She gives you another of those Gamma-Rogue Males that has a black heart and a blacker soul.
Ghislaine de Lorgny is out to kill Nicholas Blackthorne - along with numerous cuckolded husbands - and she has plenty of reasons. Gilly blames the death of her family on the guillotine and the loss of her virtue at Blackthone's door. When Gilly was fifteen, Nicholas visited his Godparents (Gilly's parents) just as The Terror was sweeping through France. Gilly fell in love with the beautiful Nicholas, and Nicholas demonstrated affection for Gilly. But when her father begs Nicholas to take her to England, away from Napoleon's nightmare reign, Nicholas coldly dismisses him, unknowingly consigning Gilly's family to death. She escaped with her 12-year-old brother onto the streets of Paris, where she watched her parents killed. Left to see to her brother's and her survival, the nightmare continued. An evil man sold Gilly into prostitution and had her brother carried away, likely killed. Gilly has carried that hatred for ten years, but finally her time for revenge has come.
Nicholas Blackthorne, the last of the mad Blackthornes, has lived his life knowing his mother and father hated that his brother had died instead of him. So, he did everything he could to live up to the mad Blackthorne's reputation. He lives with so many regrets, one being he feels responsible for the de Lorgny family going under the blade. When Gilly's father asked Nicholas to take her to England, Nicholas had just received a letter telling of his father's dead so he'd carelessly brushed off the man. For the last ten years, Nicholas believe Gilly was killed with her parents; her face has haunted his mind.
He does not recognize Gilly as the chef his cousin Ellen hired a year ago, but he soon finds out after Gilly tries to poison him. Instead of turning her over to the local magistrate, he takes Gilly prisoner and spirits her off to Scotland, then later drags her across Europe.
Hot on their heels is his cousin Ellen and Tony. Ellen has always loved Tony, but he has been more of a big brother to her. Tony has been trying for the last two years to shift their relationship, but fears he has left it too late. He sees this rescue of Gilly as a means to be close to Ellen and change her thinking towards him. Their secondary romance makes this into two loves stories, not just one.
Nicholas Blackthorne is one of Stuart's total bad boys she delights making you love. Gilly is unforgettable, her pain and betrayal stings, showing her indomitable spirit. The reader is exhausted after their emotional battles. It's one of those books you won't ever be able to forget.

Kaitlyn's Vendetta

This third book in the IFICS series doesn't disappoint. Kaitlyn continues to learn about humanity and how to blend in as well as becoming a better super-soldier fighting crime. In this book, Kaitlyn goes outside of her "assigned cases" and finds a personal connection to a local serial killer attacking teen girls. As Kaitlyn puts herself in the line of danger as a target, she will need to fight the clock to save the Dollhouse Killer's next victim.

The writing is riveting and you will have a hard time putting this one down. The plot is thick with suspense and so much fun to read. I was sad when it came to an end, but I look forward to future tales from Kaitlyn's life.

Sooooo suspenseful! Loved it!

Wow!!! Edge of your seat thrilling ride! This is the first book I have read of Julia Cranes and it was an absolute pleasure! I read each page just wondering what was going to happen with the Dollhouse Killer. Kaitlyn is a mastermind with a special talent. Not only do we hear her views, but we also hear the murderers pov. As the story unfolds you are sucked in and hooked. I read this in one sitting. I could not put it down. I will definitely read more from this author!

I can't get enough! This series has an awesome story line that keeps me hooked page after page. In this 3rd book Kaitlyn continues to grow into herself and embrace her enhancements while at the same time learning who she is as a human. This series is interesting and refreshing. There is an obvious bond and love between Kaitlyn and Lucas, but you are not bombarded by sappy or over sexualized interactions. I love the IFICS series and look forward to more.

a clear explanation

Clear definitions and explanations of problems and solutions for infrastructure investment. This is the first time I have fully understood the variety of ways to consider investment in this space. It is a primer and an advanced, sophisticated and comprehensive treatment of this fast rising category of assets. Higly recommended!

An excellent overview of the topic and a few good new ...

An excellent overview of the topic and a few good new insights as the authors have no particular axe to grind and provide a more balanced approach than many of the other more Project Finance or PPP biased books. It covers all of the ground for each infrastructure class equally, including the less glamorous, in a very through manner. My only fault is that it is a bit out of date, as most od the reference projects are pre-Global Financial Crisis, but the basic asset class parameters described are still true today.
